Biography

Marcus?Aldén?became?Professor?within?the?Physics?Department?at?Lund?University?in?1992?and?was?for?29?years?Head?of?the?Division?of?Combustion?Physics.?The?scientific?activities?have?ranged?from?very?fundamental?studies?of?laser-matter?interactions?to?industrially?real-world?applications?leading?to?more?than?500?peer?reviewed?publications.?Prof.?Aldén?has?Honorary?Professorships?at?Xian?Jiaotong?University?and?Tianjin?University?and?is?a?Guest?professor?at?Zhejiang?University.?Prof.?Aldén?has?among?other?scientific?commitments?been?Chairman?of?the?Gordon?Conference?on?Laser?Diagnostics?of?Combustion?in?2003?and?served?as?Program?co-Chair?of?the?31st?International?Symposium?on?Combustion?in?Heidelberg?2006.?He?was?a?Board?member?of?the?Combustion?Institute?from?2002?to?2016,?and?its?vice?President?between?2010-2016.?He?has?got?several?awards,?e.g.?the?Combustion?Institute?Gold?Medal?in?2022?and?the?AIAA?Aerodynamic?Measurement?Award?in?2019.?Prof.?Aldén?is?member?of?the?Royal?Swedish?Academy?of?Engineering?Sciences,?IVA,?and?the?Royal?Swedish?Academy?of?Sciences,?KVA.?In?2009?and?2015?he?got?twice?the?Advanced?Investigators?Grants?from?the?European?Research?Council,?ERC.
Abstract
Laser?techniques?are?very?well?suited?for?diagnostics?in?harsh?environments?and?in?specific?for?studies?of?combustion?processes.?The?main?advantages?with?these?techniques?are?the?non-intrusiveness?in?the?combination?with?high?spatial?and?temporal?resolution.?Prof.?Aldén?will?in?his?talk?describe?the?application?of?some?presently?common?techniques,?e.g.?Laser-induced?fluorescence?and?Raman?scattering?as?well?as?highlight?the?past?and?some?future?developments.?He?will?also?share?his?experience?in?how?to?make?optimum?impact?of?the?laser?diagnostic?activity?and?fruitful?collaborations?with?leading?research?groups?in?China.

Biography

Zhongshan?Li?is?a?full?professor?at?Lund?University,?Sweden.?He?received?his?B.S.?degree?and?M.S.?degree?in?physics?from?Jilin?University,?China,?in?1992?and?1995,?respectively,?and?his?PhD?degree?in?engineering?science?from?Lund?University,?Sweden,?in?2000.?Since?then,?he?was?employed?as?an?assistant?professor?by?the?Division?of?Combustion?Physics,?Lund?University,?where?he?is?currently?a?full?professor?of?laser?combustion?diagnostics.?His?research?interest?has?been?focused?on?the?development?and?application?of?advanced?laser?diagnostics?to?turbulent?combustion,?biomass?utilization,?nonthermal?plasma?characterization?and?functional?nanoparticle?synthesis.?He?has?published?more?than?300?peer?reviewed?journal?papers?up?to?September?2025?and?has?an?h-index?55?in?Google?scholar.?
Abstract
Metals,?i.e.?Aluminium?and?Iron,?are?energetic?materials?and?can?be?used?as?energy?carriers?of?zero-carbon?nature.?High-efficient?on-demand?scalable?energy?release?can?be?achieved?through?metal?combustion?in?air?or?steam?and?the?metal?oxides,?as?products,?can?be?collected?and?regenerated?with?"green"?energy,?being?recycled?in?a?material?loop.?Metal?fuel?combustion?as?an?alternative?fuel?technology?is?still?in?its?infancy.?In?this?lecture,?I?will?present?some?fundamental?research?on?single?particle?combustion,?mainly?experimental?observations?and?optical?measurements,?from?my?group?in?Lund.
